Support & Mentorship
A practical guide to continuing your forex education and getting useful support
Completing the TryBuying Forex Learning Academy does not mean your learning has finished. Forex is a large subject, and developing good trading habits takes time, practice and honest review.
Support and mentorship can help you understand difficult concepts, identify gaps in your knowledge and stay accountable to a structured learning process. However, good mentorship should help you become a more independent decision-maker rather than encourage you to blindly follow somebody else’s trades.
⚠️ Be Careful Who You Trust
The forex industry contains legitimate educational resources as well as aggressive marketing, signal services, managed-account offers and claims of easy profits. A person presenting themselves as a mentor is not automatically qualified, trustworthy or suitable for your needs. Always investigate claims and make your own decisions.
What Should Good Mentorship Provide?
Useful mentorship should help you understand the reasoning behind trading decisions rather than simply telling you what to buy or sell.
A good educational relationship should encourage questions, independent thinking, risk awareness and consistent practice.
Useful Areas of Support
☐ Explaining difficult forex concepts.
☐ Helping you understand your trading plan.
☐ Reviewing whether you are following your own rules.
☐ Helping identify gaps in your knowledge.
☐ Discussing risk-management principles.
☐ Helping you interpret mistakes objectively.
☐ Encouraging disciplined and independent decision-making.
What Mentorship Should Not Become
Mentorship becomes less useful when the learner is encouraged to stop thinking independently.
Be cautious if someone expects you to copy every trade, promises consistent profits, pressures you to deposit money, discourages questions or suggests that losses are impossible when following their system.
A mentor can provide education and perspective. They cannot remove market risk or guarantee what will happen to your next trade.
Be Careful With Trading Signals
Trading signals can appear attractive because they seem to remove the need to analyse the market yourself. However, following a signal does not automatically mean you understand why the trade was suggested or whether it fits your own risk-management rules.
A signal may also be delivered without enough information about your account size, existing exposure, financial circumstances or tolerance for loss.
Learning how to analyse and manage your own trades gives you greater control over your decisions than simply relying on another person’s entry and exit instructions.
Be Suspicious of Guaranteed Profit Claims
No legitimate educational approach can guarantee that every trade will be profitable. Markets are uncertain, and even well-planned trades can lose money.
Claims such as “guaranteed returns”, “risk-free forex”, “never lose again” or “easy daily income” should be treated with extreme caution.
Marketing screenshots showing profitable trades or large account balances do not, by themselves, establish that a person has a sustainable trading method.
Do Not Confuse Social Media With Proof
Social media can be useful for discovering educational ideas, but posts are often selective. A trader may show winning trades without showing losses, drawdowns, fees, mistakes or the complete trading history.
Before accepting a claim, ask what evidence supports it and whether the information represents the complete picture.
Questions to Ask
1. Is the claim independently verifiable?
2. Are losses shown as well as wins?
3. Are fees and trading costs considered?
4. Is there pressure to deposit money?
5. Are profits being guaranteed or exaggerated?
6. Does the person explain risk as clearly as potential reward?
Learn to Ask Better Questions
One of the most valuable skills you can develop after completing the Academy is knowing what questions to ask.
Instead of asking only “Will this trade go up?”, ask questions that improve your understanding of the process.
Strategy: What conditions make this setup valid?
Risk: Where would the trade idea be considered invalid?
Position size: How does the planned risk determine the position size?
Market conditions: When might this strategy perform differently?
Exit: What conditions determine when the trade should be closed?
Evidence: What information supports the trading idea?
Support Should Improve Your Decisions, Not Replace Them
The purpose of education is to help you become more capable of making informed decisions yourself.
If you find yourself unable to take a trade without somebody else telling you what to do, it may be useful to step back and focus on understanding your own strategy and risk rules.
A mentor can explain, challenge and guide your thinking, but you remain responsible for deciding whether you want to trade and what risks you are prepared to accept.
Where Can You Continue Learning?
You can continue building your knowledge through several forms of education. The most useful approach will depend on what you still need to learn.
Academy: Return to lessons whenever you need to refresh a concept.
Forex Oracle: Use the TryBuying Forex Oracle to explore individual forex questions and concepts.
Trading Journal: Use your own records to identify areas where you need improvement.
Demo Practice: Practise your process without putting real trading capital at risk.
Mentorship: Ask questions when you need clarification or another educational perspective.
When Should You Ask for Help?
You do not need to wait until you have made a serious mistake before asking a question.
If you do not understand how an order works, how position sizing is calculated, why a stop-loss is placed in a particular location, how a broker operates or why your trading behaviour keeps changing, asking for clarification can help you avoid making assumptions.
The goal of asking for help should be to understand the issue well enough that you can make better decisions yourself.
Mentorship Red Flags
⚠️ Guaranteed profits or guaranteed returns.
⚠️ Claims that trading is risk-free.
⚠️ Pressure to deposit money immediately.
⚠️ Pressure to increase deposits after losses.
⚠️ Promises of a secret strategy that cannot lose.
⚠️ Requests for account passwords or unnecessary financial access.
⚠️ Encouragement to borrow money to trade.
⚠️ Refusal to discuss risk and potential losses.
⚠️ Pressure to copy trades without understanding them.
⚠️ Claims based only on luxury lifestyles, screenshots or testimonials.
The Goal Is Greater Independence
The strongest outcome of education is not becoming dependent on a particular mentor, signal provider or trading community.
The goal is to gradually develop enough understanding to analyse a trading idea, assess the risk, understand the possible outcomes and decide for yourself whether the trade fits your own plan.
You may continue asking questions for years as your knowledge develops. Independent decision-making does not mean you have to learn everything alone.
Create Your Ongoing Learning Plan
Your education should continue after the Academy. Create a simple routine for reviewing your knowledge and trading process.
☐ Review my trading journal regularly.
☐ Identify one area of my trading process that needs improvement.
☐ Revisit Academy lessons when I need clarification.
☐ Ask questions when I do not understand something.
☐ Continue practising rather than rushing to increase risk.
☐ Check information before acting on trading claims.
☐ Keep responsibility for my own trading decisions.
